Grandpa Al Memorial ServiceFrom: J Date: 2/21/2006 Time: 7:07:41 PM Remote Name: 151.198.55.121
CommentsFirst, Thank You Bonnie Vent for informing us of
the service. Luckily, since I live in New Jersey
I was able to go. The day started out rather drab
with some early snow flurries but then became
sunny if a bit blustery. It was incredible to see
so many people come to pay their respects. I was
touched by all the tributes by those who knew and
worked with Al over the years. Butch Patrick spoke
of how Al would help him with his lines then take
him outside the studio to play baseball or toss a
frisbee because he felt it was important not to
lose out on being a kid. Prof. Irwin Corey gave a
funny tribute, in two languages, to Al. Then his
sons and wife spoke. I must admit a few tears
welled up in my eyes along with the laughs. I'm
rather embarrassed to admit that I had no idea
that he was such a social activist in his life. I
knew that he had tried to run for Governor of N.Y.
but lost, but I was unaware of his fights for
many causes. He will indeed be missed.
R.I.P. Grandpa Al Lewis.
