I think a 3rd Season would have to been the last season. Fred Gwynne was dying by sweating so much under the hot rubber foam suit. Plus I think some of the gags in Season 2, show that the writers were running out of well thought out plots. Plus, the show was going to color for the 66-67 TV season. That would have meant more time in the makeup chair for the cast, and an extra $10,000 for the purchase of Color film, instead of Black & White film.
